My 2017 XC90 T6 is coming up on the timing belt replacement interval at 150k kilometers and the dealer quoted me a price that made me need to sit down for a minute. I know it's a big job on these engines because of the transverse layout and limited space, but I feel like the dealer premium is significant for what is essentially a preventative maintenance item that any competent Volvo specialist should be able to handle. Dynostar keeps coming up in Volvo discussions and they list timing belt service for the XC90. Anyone with a similar generation XC90 had the timing belt done at an independent shop, were you satisfied with the work and roughly how much did you save compared to the dealer quote? Also curious if it's recommended to do the water pump at the same time even if it's not leaking, on some cars it's a while you're in there item but I'm not sure if the Volvo water pump is driven by the timing belt or a separate accessory belt. Trying to plan this expense without any surprises.
