What Should I Know Before Planning a Shimla-Manali Trip from Delhi?

I’m helping my family plan a Himachal holiday from Delhi, and one thing I’ve realised during the planning process is that a mountain trip needs a little more thought than simply booking a hotel and heading out. Distances, weather, sightseeing time and road conditions can all affect how much you actually enjoy the trip.
We initially considered arranging everything ourselves, but then started looking at a Himachal Tour Package From Delhi. The main attraction for us is convenience, especially when travelling with family. Having transport and accommodation organised can make things easier, although I’d still check the hotel location, vehicle type, sightseeing inclusions and whether there are additional charges before booking anything.
Manali is probably the destination I’m most excited about. While looking through the Places to Visit in Manali, I noticed that there’s a good mix of nature, temples, viewpoints and adventure activities. Solang Valley, Old Manali, Hidimba Devi Temple and Vashisht are on my initial list. I’d also rather leave some free time instead of spending every hour travelling from one attraction to another.
Choosing the right month is where things become slightly confusing. The Best Time to Visit Manali depends heavily on what someone expects from the trip. If the goal is pleasant weather and outdoor sightseeing, the warmer months seem appealing. Travellers specifically looking for snow may prefer winter, but that also means preparing for colder conditions and potentially busier roads and hotels.
Shimla would give the trip a completely different feel. While researching the Places to Visit in Shimla, I found plenty of options beyond simply walking around Mall Road. The Ridge, Christ Church, Jakhoo Temple and Kufri are popular choices, while nearby areas can be explored if there is enough time. I think Shimla would work particularly well for the family members who aren't interested in adventure activities.
I’m equally curious about the Best Time to Visit Shimla. Summer seems ideal for escaping Delhi's heat, but I imagine it can get quite crowded during school holidays. Winter sounds attractive for anyone hoping to see snowfall, although I’d probably avoid planning the entire trip around that possibility.
Another lesson from the planning process is not to underestimate travel time. A five-day holiday can feel surprisingly short if too many places are added to the itinerary. I’d rather visit fewer attractions properly, enjoy local food and have time to simply sit somewhere with a mountain view.
For people who have already done a Shimla-Manali trip from Delhi, what would you change if you were planning it again? Would you prioritise sightseeing, relaxation, or adventure activities?
